Honouring the courage, craft, and independence
shaping journalism around the world.
Each year, independent journalists do the work that changes public conversation, holds power to account, and tells the stories others overlook.
The IPG Awards Luncheon on Sunday, August 30th, 2026,
celebrates that work and the people behind it.
Join us for an afternoon recognizing excellence in investigative reporting, storytelling, and public interest journalism across borders and platforms. This event will take place as part of
The Democracy Fund’s Student Journalism Conference.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Independent journalism
deserves its own stage
Freelancers, small newsrooms, nonprofit reporters, and solo storytellers are often responsible for the most impactful journalism of our time. Yet their work is rarely recognized at the same level as large media institutions.
The IPG Awards were created to change that.
The awards spotlight journalists who work without big budgets or corporate backing, but with clarity, integrity, and grit. The kind of reporting that keeps communities informed and democracy alive.
If you’ve ever filed a story from your kitchen table at midnight or chased a lead because it simply needed to be told, this is for you.
